MURPHY SETS OFF FOR U18 EURO CHAMPIONSHIP

Jonny receives a cheque from Junior Club Chairman Raymond Reid, as U18 Coach Willie Kirkwood looks on

Jonny Murphy heads to Dublin tomorrow to rendezvous with the Ireland U18 Squad, before heading off to the south of France to take part in the European Championship.

Jonny who represented Ulster Youth in the Interprovincial Championship along with other Banbridge players Stephen Irvine, Chris Leathem, Adam Proctor and Sam Boyd, has been selected as one of only three Ulstermen in the 26 man squad.

Ireland have performed well in this competition in recent years, losing to France in last years final and will hope to be challenging for top honours again. Placed in the top tier based on previous performance, Ireland will face Russia in the opening match and, dependent on results, can expect to face England and France if they are to progress to the final.

Chairman Raymond Reid on behalf of Banbridge RFC Junior Club awarded Jonny with a cheque to help with costs for his trip.

Banbridge RFC wish Jonny and the Irish Squad best wishes for the championship.
