Adam Proctor hands off
The Gordon’s Chemist sponsored Under 18’s took to the field last Saturday week hoping to keep their undefeated streak at home intact. With only centre Simon Adamson now on the injured/illness list there was a full squad to pick from. It took only 10 minutes to break the Clogher Valley line as winger David Adamson sprinted in after some great back-line passing. Within minutes flanker Jonathan Weir had barged his way over the line for a try which was converted by Chris Leathem. This was closely followed by second row Sam Boyd sprinting all of 30 metres for his side’s third try in the opening quarter hour. Five minutes later Leathem scored and converted his own try. Just on the half-time whistle Clogher Valley registered a penalty to leave the score 24-3 at half time. The front row of Josh Neilly, Ryan Ringland and Adam Proctor led from the front, winning scrum ball against the head and popping up throughout the field on some barn-storming runs. One such run followed by some quick rucking led to a try 5 minutes into the second half, scored by winger Peter Irvine, his seventh of the season. Leathem, along with Irvine a member of the 30-man Irish U18 Club squad, scored his second of the day which he duly converted. From the re-start full-back Mark Doherty picked up a pass on the halfway and he used his speed and determination to round the defence to score another which he converted himself. Man of the Match scrum-half Richard Henning, completed the perfect game for himself with the final touchdown, leaving the final score 48-3. More important than the eight tries was the defensive shut-out which as always is a key objective of the game for this team.
